Stand atop Africa at 5,895m. Expert KINAPA-licensed guides, premium camping gear, and a summit success rate that speaks for itself. Your summit story starts here.
Six official Kilimanjaro routes, each with its own character, scenery, and challenge level. We'll help you choose the right one for your fitness and schedule.
The only route with hut accommodation, Marangu is popular for beginners. Its gradual gradient through moorland and alpine desert makes it accessible, though its shorter acclimatization window demands respect. Don't be fooled by its "easy" nickname — Kilimanjaro always demands preparation.
Day-by-day elevation gain across the 7-day itinerary
We always recommend 7 days over 5 for Marangu. The extra acclimatization night at Kibo Hut significantly improves summit success rates. The huts mean no tent setup — but they also mean sharing with other groups. Pack earplugs!
The most scenic and popular route on Kilimanjaro. Machame passes through spectacular rainforest, heath, moorland and alpine desert. Its "high camp, sleep low" profile means superior acclimatization and higher summit rates. This is our most recommended route for fit first-timers.
7-day Machame with private tented camps & gourmet meals
Widely considered the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro, Lemosho approaches from the west through pristine rainforest rarely seen by other trekkers. Its long duration (8 days recommended) provides outstanding acclimatization and the highest summit success rate of any route. Pure luxury trekking.
Our guides unanimously rate Lemosho as the most rewarding Kilimanjaro experience. The Western Breach approach at sunrise is breathtaking.
8-day luxury Lemosho with private chef & premium tents
The only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north near the Kenyan border. Rongai is drier than the southern routes, making it ideal for the wet season. You'll see fewer trekkers on the mountain, and the northern slopes have a distinctly different character — wilder, quieter, more remote.
Best for: Wet season climbers (March–May, Nov), those seeking solitude, trekkers combining with a Kenya/Amboseli itinerary
The longest route on Kilimanjaro and the one with the highest summit success rate. The Northern Circuit (9 days) circumnavigates three-quarters of the mountain, offering a true "Grand Tour" experience. Wildlife sightings, dramatic climate zones, complete solitude — this is Kilimanjaro at its finest.
The extra acclimatization days make a measurable difference at altitude.
9-day premium Northern Circuit with full luxury camp
The steepest, most direct route on Kilimanjaro — not for the faint-hearted. Umbwe climbs rapidly through dense rainforest on a narrow ridge trail. With limited time for acclimatization, it demands exceptional physical fitness and prior high-altitude experience. Reserved for experienced trekkers only.
We only accept clients with prior high-altitude experience (4,000m+) on this route. A fitness assessment is required before booking.

Our above-average success rates are a result of proper acclimatization planning, experienced guides who monitor altitude symptoms, and premium oxygen equipment available on all climbs.
* Rates shown are Nashivai-specific, vs. the industry average of 65%
Our guides follow a strict acclimatization protocol developed over 12 years. Each day is planned to balance ascent with rest, and pulse-oximeters are used at every camp.
Kilimanjaro's Swahili motto is our team's mantra. We never rush accents, keeping a pace that allows conversation throughout.
Blood oxygen levels are recorded at each camp. Any reading below 80% triggers rest and our guide's assessment protocol.
On applicable routes (Machame, Lemosho), we incorporate "high camp" afternoons before descending to sleep — maximizing acclimatization time.
We advise clients with their doctor about Acetazolamide (Diamox) for prophylactic use. Our guides are first-aid certified and carry emergency oxygen.
All climbs include an emergency descent plan and GPS tracking. Stretcher rescues are rehearsed monthly by our mountain rescue team.
Kilimanjaro can be climbed year-round, but two dry seasons offer the best summit conditions. Use this calendar to plan your climb.
Clear skies and stable temperatures. Summit views are spectacular. This is when we run our group departures and the mountain is most alive with fellow climbers. Book 3–6 months in advance.
Fewer climbers, slightly reduced prices, and still good summit chances. Cloud cover in the afternoon is common but doesn't prevent summiting. Our guides know how to read the mountain's weather patterns.
We strongly advise against Apr–May climbs. Heavy rains make trails slippery and dangerous, and visibility at summit is near zero. March can work on the Rongai (northern, drier) route for determined adventurers.
What to bring on your Kilimanjaro climb. Items marked bold are essential — don't leave without them. We provide a full gear list PDF upon booking.
The ultimate Tanzanian mountain experience. Climb Meru (4 days) as your acclimatization, rest 1 day in Arusha, then take on Kilimanjaro (7–8 days). With Meru in your legs, your Kilimanjaro summit rate increases to 97%.
